Delhi:EROS TIMES: Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot, launched the unique facility of Integrated Transit Maps a t bus shelters for the convenience of bus commuters to plan their journeys using public buses.
The pilot project covering four bus shelters was launched at the Delhi Secretariat bus stop.
The Integrated Transit Map is uniquely designed for each bus stop and comprises of a visual cognitive map of the all bus routes passing through the bus stop, Delhi metro network and key landmarks overlaid on map of Delhi.
Speaking at the occasion, Gahlot said The Delhi government is undertaking all efforts to making Delhi’s public transport system modern, efficient and a preferred mode of transport for residents and tourists in Delhi.
The current initiative is aimed at many commuters who are unable to use the bus network because they find it difficult to locate the bus routes and their timings. In the next one and half years, we will scale this feature to all bus shelters in Delhi and also introduce the facility of real-time tracking of bus arrival time at bus shelters.”
The map has been designed in collaboration with City Wise, a Delhi based design and mapping firm, following global best practices of designing cognitive transit maps which are the norm in cities such as New York and London.
Apart from the route map of buses and metro, the ‘Integrated Transit Map’ also includes bus timings of all buses arriving at that stop and a detailed neighborhood map with a 1 km radius around the bus stop, which will allow bus commuters to easily locate their destinations after completing their bus journey. Special care was taken to detail out the nearest metro station and closest gate to enter into the metro station.
