NEW DELHI:EROS TIMES: As part of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee’s preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, under the leadership of DPCC president Sheila Dikshit, a Cycle Yatra will be held from April 1, 2019 in the 25 Assembly constituencies falling under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
This was decided at a meeting of the District Congress Committees at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today. Sheila Dikshit said that the message for the cycle yatra “Haath Ke Saath—Cycle Yatra” would be taken to each and every corner so that people become aware of the achievements, programmes and policies of the Congress party and the message and vision of Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
DPCC president Sheila Dikshit said that the cycle yatra will be a perfect launch for the Congress party’s Lok Sabha election campaign as this will enable the Congress workers to have direct interaction with the people, and tell them about the programmes, policies and achievements of the Congress Government in Delhi.
She said that Congress was a national party which was not confined to any particular area, and therefore the reach and acceptability of the Congress was bigger than that of any other party. She said that in the campaign of the Congress party, the role of the Congress workers would be very vital as whatever happens in Delhi will have nation-wide impact. Sheila Dikshit said that the development works carried out by the Congress Government during its 15-year rule in Delhi were unprecedented which no other Government could claim credit for, and these things should be reminded to the people, who now long for the Congress to come back to power, to provide stable and able governance.
Sheila Dikshit asked the seven BJP MLAs from Delhi what works they had done for the betterment of Delhi during the past five years. She said that the report cards of the BJP MPs were zero as whatever development that is visible in Delhi happened when the Congress was in power in Delhi.
She said that Congress is a political party and politics is a vehicle for the party to serve the people. She appealed to the people of Delhi to participate in large numbers in the cycle yatra, and ensure the victory of the Congress candidates in all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi.
Addressing the meeting, Devender Yadav said that the cycle yatra, consisting of over 1000 cyclists mounted with Congress flags, will be held from April 1, 2019 to kick off the Congress party’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said that the cycle yatra will cover two Assembly constituencies every day and the routes for the yatra have also been chalked out. The cycle yatra will cover important areas of an Assembly constituency like markets, residential areas, and other places before halting at various places for overnight stay daily, like JJ Clusters, resettlement colonies, villages, urban villages and urban bastis. He said that overnight stay of the cyclists have also been finalized where they will be provided arrangements for their stay, food and other necessary facilities.
Devender Yadav said that while taking out the cycle yatra in an Assembly constituency, the Congress workers will interact with members of the Residents’ Welfare Associations as the RWAs are in direct link with the people of their respective areas, and would play a vital role in mobilizing support for the Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections. He said meetings will also be held with social and religious organizations, market associations and pradhans of villages. A separate meeting will be held in each Assembly constituency with office-bearers of the Congress party in the area, veteran Congress workers, and people of the area. Yadav said meetings will be held at unauthorised colonies, JJ Clusters, Chaupals in the villages and prominent areas of an Assembly constituency so that people can reach the venues without any difficulty.
Devender Yadav said that during the cycle yatra, people will be enlightened about the policies and programmes of the Congress party, the message and vision of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, and the achievements of the Congress Government under the Chief Ministership of Sheila Dikshit during its 15-year rule in the Capital when Delhi had witnessed unprecedented development works.
He said that during the Congress rule, focus was trained on health, education, metro, CNG in public transport, transport, women, youth, unauthorised colonies, resettlement colonies, JJ clusters and people will be told about them.
Devender Yadav said that during the cycle yatra, the Congress workers will expose the failures and non-performances of the Modi Government at the Centre and the AAP Government in Delhi. He said that the massive corruption in the Rafale fighter aircraft deal by the Modi Government, demonetization, GST, corruption, unemployment, betrayal of the farmers will be the main election plank of the Congress party. He said that Delhiites will also be informed about the lies and deceit of Arvind Kejriwal, the squandering of public money for self publicity through advertisements and the inauguration spree of events with an eye on the Lok Sabha elections without intending to fulfil any of those hollow promises.
