NEW DELHI:EROS TIMES: June 2019—A Delhi Congress delegation, led by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Sheila Dikshit, met Lt. Governor Anil Baijal at Raj Niwas today and sought his immediate intervention to check the worsening law and order situation in the Capital.
Sheila Dikshit said that in the past few weeks, many heinous crimes have been committed in Delhi, some of them in the heart of the Capital, with the Delhi Police standing as “mute witnesses”.
The DPPC delegation submitted a memorandum to the Lt. Governor, detailing the heinous crimes committed in the Capital in the recent weeks, including over a dozen murders and many instances of shootings, snatchings and robberies, to make Delhi a very unsafe place to live in. Sheila Dikshit said that the Congress delegation requested the Lt. Governor to take prompt steps to make the Capital safe for its citizens.
After meeting the Lt. Governor, Sheila Dikshit told news persons that he carefully listened to her point of view on the law and order situation, and asked for suggestions on how to improve law and order in the Capital.
Sheila Dikshit said that Anil Baijal has taken serious note of the worsening law and order situation in the national capital, as he himself was very concerned about it.
She said that the LG has promised that he would address the situation quickly and the face of Delhi would be changed for the better, with the help and support of all concerned.
She said that the Lt. Governor assured that wherever law and order is weak, steps have already been taken to rectify them, and things would improve very quickly.
Besides Sheila Dikshit, others in the delegation included Working Presidents Haroon Yusuf and Rajesh Lilothia, former Delhi Ministers Dr A.K.Walia, Mangat Ram Singhal, Ramakant Goswami, Dr Narendra Nath, Dr Kiran Walia, spokesperson Jitender Kumar Kochar (Jitu) and Prahlad Singh Sahni, ex-MLA.
The memorandum drew the attention of the Lt. Governor to the worsening law and order situation in Delhi “as the number of heinous crimes have been going up in the national Capital with every passing day, to make Delhi a very unsafe place to live in”.
“Murders, robberies, snatchings, shootings, rapes and assaults on women, children and the elderly have witnessed a sharp rise in the recent weeks. Over a dozen murders have taken place in the last two weeks”, the memorandum noted.
“The Delhi Police has woefully failed to control the crime rates in Delhi, and the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi has been blaming the BJP Government at the Centre for the rise in crimes and the inaction of the police, as Delhi Police is under the control of the Union Home Ministry.
“With the AAP and BJP Governments indulging in blame-games instead of addressing the problem of rising crime rates, we request your immediate intervention to improve the law and order situation so that people feel safe to live in Delhi, and move around freely during the day and night, in the National Capital which is supposed to be a high-security zone”.
DPCC spokesperson Jitender Kumar Kochar said that Delhi has become the “Crime Capital” of the country as the law and order situation has worsened like never before.
He said that the law and order situation has become so terrible that if the situation is not set right quickly, there will be anarchy in Delhi.
