NEW DELHI:EROS TIMES: Minister of Environment & Forest, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Imran Hussain today reviewed the action plan of Forest Department regarding development of City Forest and programme for carrying out “mega tree plantation” during the ensuing monsoon season.
The meeting was attended by Pr. Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), Conservator of Forest (CF) and Dy. Conservators of Forest (DCFs) of the various Forest Divisions of Delhi.
During the meeting, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, informed the Minister that the Forest Department has proposed to develop 11 City Forests during the current financial year 2019-20. Hussain directed the Forest Department to ensure that at least 6 City Forests are developed early in the monsoon season itself.
Accordingly, the Forest Department was directed by the Minister to submit detailed action plant including timelines for of development of 6 City Forests immediately.
The Forest Minister also directed the Forest Department to submit a proposal for carrying out Mega Tree Plantation drive to be organized in the last week of July, 2019 in association with the various Greening Agencies of the Capital.
The proposal should clearly indicate the agency-wise targets along with locations for carrying out tree plantation with active participation of people especially children.
Imran Hussain desired that the Forest Department may also immediately put up a proposal including time lines and agency-wise targeted plantation to be carried out in the monsoon season apart from Mega Tree Plantation drive.
The Forest Minister stressed the need for ensuring maximum public participation for carrying out tree plantation in a big way in the monsoon season which is conducive for the plant growth and survival.
This will go a long way in combating the ill effects of air pollution in Delhi.
It was also decided that a review meeting will be convened soon.
